February is the month of love, and there’s no better place to celebrate it than right here in Scotland, a land brimming with romantic tales, timeless traditions, and breathtaking beauty. From the misty glens of the Highlands to the cobbled streets of historic towns, Scotland has always been a muse for poets, writers, and lovers alike.
Scotland’s connection to love is steeped in history and few stories capture the imagination quite like the relic of Saint Valentine, said to be tucked away in the Church of Blessed St. John Duns Scotus in the Gorbals. Encased in a gold reliquary, this relic has become a quiet symbol of enduring love, drawing visitors year after year, especially in February.
It’s a wee gem of a story that highlights how Scotland’s place in the wider world of love is more significant than many might realise.
Our traditions of love and romance are every bit as enduring as our history. Take hand fasting, for example. This ancient custom, where a couple’s hands are tied together to symbolise their union, has seen a revival in recent years.
Whether it’s a part of a wedding ceremony or a renewal of vows, there’s something deeply meaningful about this act, rooted in Scotland’s heritage. And when you picture it against a backdrop of heather-covered hills or the craggy shores of a loch, it’s no wonder so many couples from around the world are drawn here to celebrate their love in true Scottish style.
At WeeBox, I celebrate every day, sharing its beauty and spirit with subscribers around the world. This February, though, I’m especially thrilled to be offering a chance for two of our global WeeBox Clan to win the trip of a lifetime to Scotland, as we wrap up our biggest competition every which ran throughout January.
For many of our subscribers, Scotland isn’t just a place – it’s a feeling, a connection that runs deep. That’s why, when curating this trip, I wanted to show our winners the very best of Scotland’s magic, romance, and people.
The adventure begins with a two-night glamping experience at Culdees Castle in Perthshire. For anyone who hasn’t visited yet, Culdees is a hidden gem that perfectly blends history, luxury, and a connection to the great outdoors.
Our winners will relax under the stars with their own private fire pit and hot tub, surrounded by the beauty of the castle grounds and graciously hosted by Tracey and Rob, owners and restorers of the castle.
They’ll also take part in a hand-fasting ceremony led by Andy the Highlander, whose warm storytelling and deep passion for Scottish traditions are sure to make the occasion unforgettable. A hosted dinner at the Red Lion will round off the evening, celebrating Scotland’s renowned hospitality.
From there, they will head to the charming village of Culross for a stay at Stay Culross B&B.
During their stay, the winners will enjoy a specially curated charcuterie and cheese board dinner – a perfect way to unwind after a day of exploring, all hosted by Elaine, the owner. To make the memories last a lifetime, Becky of Holeyn Heritage Photography will capture their journey in stunning images.
No Scottish adventure would be complete without exploring our country’s iconic landmarks and hidden gems. The winners will join Sassenach Historian Hailey on two exclusive tours, diving deep into the stories that make our landscapes so special. Whether it’s a castle steeped in history or a beach that’s been kissed by the North Sea for millennia, Hailey’s storytelling brings Scotland’s past to life in a way that’s both engaging and unforgettable.
Closer to home, January was a busy and exciting month here at WeeBox, as I attended the Scottish Trade Fair.
For me, this is one of the highlights of the year – a chance to meet new makers and catch up with some of the brilliant small businesses I’ve worked with before. The creativity and passion on display are always inspiring, and it’s an opportunity to discover products that might just find their way into a future WeeBox.
Now somewhat a tradition of the fair, I rounded up some of our WeeBox makers for a photo at the end of the last day. Pictured are Britton Scotland, Earth Squared, Couthie Gifts, Chloe Gardner, Glenna Studios, Jackton Art, Strings and Dreams, The Wee Book Company, The Unraveling, Celtic Art Jewellery, Purple Sage Soap Company, Anke Rainbow, Victoria Gordon Art, Lin-Pin Crafts, Selbrae House, McLaggan+Co, Glen Appin of Scotland, Jomanda and Ochil Fudge.
This Valentine season, let’s celebrate love, Scottish style. Whether you’re planning a romantic getaway, rekindling connections with loved ones, or simply appreciating the beauty of our homeland, there’s no better place to be than Scotland. And for two lucky WeeBox subscribers, a dream trip to experience it all is just around the corner.
